Mmmh, I've had the strangest 24 hours in my life. Everything started off grand, a bit of confusion about what was happening later on in the night and whether or not I was going to be going into town with Vinny and Izzy, either way I headed out to work to open the shop. Work was alright, nothing to major, myself and Leo were extremely busy, but I guess I'm not used to working Saturdays any more. So, about 8.30 Vinny calls into the store and waits for Izzy to get off the bus. Eventually Izzy turns up, we had a quick chat about what we were all doing later on, and so it was decided that we were going to go in for a few drinks.
A couple of minutes before I finished work I get a phone call from Barry, my housemate, saying that he was in town with Megan and that they couldn't get into Issac Butts from some reason, but that he was going to Fibbers. Fair enough I thought, and thought no more about it. Just as I was about to close the store at midnight Vinny and Izzy turn up so we can all catch a taxi together. I managed to flag a taxi down after from frantic arm waving and running. So not long after that and a brief conversation with the taxi driver we get into Fibbers. We then locate where Barry and Megan were sitting. Anyways after a few beers 3 O'clock rolls around and it was kick out time. We headed down and hopped on a Nitelink home.
Now this is where the story picks up. Barry, Vinny and I all caught the Nitelink to Lucan seeing that we’re all from around there. The Nitelink journey was pretty much pleasant enough considering drunken people surrounded us, we ran into Siobhan, one of Barry's Neighbours, who had just finished work. She sat down in a seat on the left handside of the bus, but while the bus steadily filled with intoxicated people she moved over and sat next to Barry on the right handside of the bus. It was pleasant until we got to Liffey Valley. Some drunken people from the front of the bus, who were quite loud and drunken, got off the bus. Seconds later, all I really remember was shards of glass bouncing off my face. A little stunned I quickly checked to see if I had been cut, thankfully I wasn't cut nor was nobody else. However Vinny and Barry, who were sitting directly opposite of the window got most of the glass in their faces. Annoyed at this they went down to the Bus Driver to get his Name and Registration Number, just so we can make a report to the cops about it. The Bus Drivers attitude was basically, 'No, Fuck off'. What then annoyed me was that he just carried on as normal, he didn't even get out of his cabin to check to see if we were alright. I could understand that he was pretty scared about what just happened but think about it, he was in no way in any danger, unlike Siobhan, who if didn't move would have copped the full blast of the window and rock.
So we waited until we were getting off the bus to find out the driver's details. Vinny and I headed down to the driver to inquire about what his details were. Now, remember when I said that we had a few beers, well don't forget that both Vinny and myself only got into the pub at 12.15, so we weren't even tipsy. The Bus Driver started mouthing off, saying that we were to get off the Bus and that he wouldn't give us his details. I demanded to know his details, and he went to close the doors and drive on with us still in the bus until I said, "Go ahead mate, and I'll have you done for unlawful imprisonment!" and he stopped the Bus. Finally the cogs in his head started to click into place. He once again demanded that we got off the bus, and with this I walked in front of the bus and started to take down his bus registration. While I was doing that two random blokes came down the stairs and punched Barry in the face completely unprovoked. Barry a little shaken up, and covered in blood noticed that the scumbag had broken one of his front teeth. Barry staggers off the bus blood soaked, as the scumbag picks up a bit of Barry tooth and fucks it down the bus. Vinny lands a couple of punches with the scumbags, meanwhile Siobhan is in the middle of all this unharmed. Barry then heads back on to the bus, but I grab him just in time before he got back on. Holding Barry back, I managed to rip his new shirt. But Barry keeps going, and runs on to the bus screaming and f'ing and blinding scaring the beejasus out of the two scumbags. I run back onto the bus grabbed both Vinng and Barry and pulled them both back off the bus. The minute I managed to pull the two lads off the bus driver took off instantly, with Siobhan on it.
A couple of minutes later, I phoned 999 and report an attack. I kept ringing until I eventually got a Garda car up to the house. Before the cops get to the house, Siobhan turns up with the Drivers details. After a couple of minutes, we soon discover that 95% the cameras on Dublin Bus don't work. I have to give it to the Gardaí. They were pleasant, understanding. They knew exactly why we wanted the driver's details but they couldn't understand why we were attacked. They took our details down, and soon left. What really pisses us of is the fact that the driver instead of telling us to fuck off could have spent less time by just writing down his details and giving them to us. It just makes me sick to think that we were the ones that could have been injured by the rock through the window but yet we were treated as the ones who carried out the act. Another thing that gets to me is the fact that the camera's on the bus lures you into a false sense of security.
At the end of the night, Vinny had some cuts and scraps, Siobhan could have been seriously injured, and Barry was left with a chunk missing from his front tooth. And me? I'm just disappointed that I didn't jump in and kick the living snot out of the scumbags, but yet I'm happier that I managed to break up the fight before some one ended up in hospital. What an interesting weekend.
Anyways here is some cheerier stuff.
